Texas Dove Hunting: Red Eye Outfitters’ Standout Season Opener

Things got off to an exciting start for the Red Eye Outfitters team and their clients when the legal shooting bell rang.  They were surrounded by mourning doves, being tempted with an opportunity to limit out in the first 15 minutes (which would have been easy to do). But with a bit self control they were in rewarded for their patience.

As the morning unfolded,  consistent groups of white-winged doves were making their way to the sunflower fields. Some of these groups were larger groups, with as many as 60 white wings flying in together. The sky was opening up with doves everywhere.

By the time the clock struck 10 AM, the last group of hunters emerged from the fields, each with bags filled to the brim and smiles stretching from ear to ear. It wasn’t just a successful hunt, it was an exciting opening day of dove season for Red Eye Outfitters and their clients. Once again showing why Red Eye Outfitters is one of the leading winshooting operations in the state.

Shortly after that, groups of Eurasian Collared Doves started making their way in, providing an unexpected bonus bird to target. At Red Eye Outfitters, they have a rule where hunters stop after bagging 15 legally game birds, regardless of the mix of birds in the air. This led their clients to hold back on shooting white-winged and mourning doves, hoping to capitalize on these bonus birds.
